July 23, 1914: Austria-Hungary issued an ultimatum against Serbia. German language media in Austria and Germany begin to lead a propaganda war with cartoons like these. The (grammatically incorrect) slogan: “Serbien muss sterbien!” (Serbia must die!) appears from now on very often in the phase of mobilization (the correct form is “sterben”, altered to “sterbien” for the sake of rhyme).
